Pine tree is the most important honey producing tree in Greece. It is estimated that over 60% of the total honey production in our country is pine tree honey. Simultaneously it comprises a unique and rare honey for the global market, since it is produced almost entirely in Greece and Turkey. It originates from the honeydew that is produced from the insect Marchalina Hellenica, widely known as Pine Worker.

Pine tree honey has a mild character, which makes it a favorite to a wide range of consumers. It does not have an intense aroma and it consists of subtle medium intensity sweetness. Its consistency is fairly thick, and due to low concentration of sugar and specifically glucose, it crystallizes slowly (1-2+ years). Its crystallization usually originates from its natural mixture with honeys made from other plants which also exist in pine tree forests.

Did you know that…

Pine tree honey has naturally high levels of ash in comparison to other  honeys that lend it its unique dietary value. High levels of ash equals high level of minerals, which assist the metabolism significantly in human nutrition.

Likewise consumption of pine tree honey seems to lower oxidative stress .

Where do we produce it?

We produce pine tree honey in the island of Ikaria, one of the virgin and pure forests in Greece, way far from industrial places. We position our beehives in steep slopes,- Ikaria has plenty!- that fall straight to the sea, for the unique advantage of providing the bees with a flight range between sea side and mountainous environments.
