San Casciano in Val di Pesa, Tuscany, Italy
La Ginestra was founded in 1978 by a group of young people who took over part of the old Murlo estate, which had been abandoned for decades. Located in the municipality of San Casciano Val di Pesa, an Italian municipality belonging to the metropolitan city of Florence. It is situated in the Chianti Hills, between the Pesa Valley and the Greve Valley, 15 km south of the city of Florence and about 40 km north of Siena. La Ginestra is today a cooperative of 9 partners and 9 employees.
The La Ginestra estate takes its name from the beautiful climbing plant with yellow flowers typical of these fields. The agriculture they practice in their vineyards has been even more than organic since 1989: they produce in full respect of nature and without using synthetic chemical products.
The work begun in recent years is now being carried forward with passion and determination by a new generation of young people who continue to value the products of their land, fully embracing the choice of organic and biodynamic agriculture.
The multi-stage harvest is the approach of this project, first selecting the most acidic grapes and then gradually the riper ones to create different masses that will give rise to the final wines as we find them in the bottle through a blending process.
All wines ferment spontaneously in stainless steel tanks and terracotta and stoneware amphorae.
If SO2 is used, it is used in very small quantities in the final racking before bottling. The style of the wines seeks lightness and finesse, respecting the territoriality and always with a notable depth.
